In the January Newsletter there was an article about the ten different types of Church Plants.  Recently, Bishop Charlie was asked to identify the type of Church Plant that originated each of our ANiC Parishes.  Bishop Charlie was the National Director of Essentials, and then ANiC.  He was the one most familiar with how each of our churches evolved.
Of the 74 ANiC Churches:

  • 44 are Transplants ( a sizeable group moves to ANiC from another jurisdiction)
  • 4 are Organic Plants (gathered around a lay leader or study group)
  • 1 is an Embedded Plant (gathered around an ordained leader trained locally)
  • 6 are Tent Maker Plants (a co-vocational leader starts a project)
  • 8 are Second Wind Plants ( a group forms around a retired minister)
  • 1 is a Strategic Plant  (The Diocese and sponsoring Parish resource an assessed Planter with an articulated and clear vision)
  • 6 are Satellite Plants (a church starts another site that may develop into a separate parish)
  • 1 is Traditional (a church sends a priest, a team, and resources for a set period)
  • 2 are Missionary Plants (an ordained person raises support, moves a distance from a sponsoring parish, connects by Zoom technology)
  • 1 is a Replant ( a dwindling Church receives fresh leadership and resources)
In fact most of our churches have characteristics of more than one model.  Asian and Multi-Cultural Missions in Canada operates as a Church Planting group of Churches through its Executive.

We thank Bishop Charlie for helping us to understand our roots!
